Camel’s Hump Challenge Champion of the Year

Yuriy Myron Bihun 1952-2024

Yuriy Bihun championed the Camel’s Hump Challenge for many years. From 2006 to 2020, Yuriy brought his unique humor, commitment and friendly enthusiasm to the organizing committee. This included the task of clearing and flagging the ski trail. He embraced the annual ritual with a joy of being in the woods, a deep knowledge of tree life and trail lunches that were the envy of his fellow woodsmen. He cleared root sprouting beech shoots, hobblebush and deadfalls of every description with energy and tenacity. On mornings of the event, Yuriy addressed the assembled skiers with a reassuring description of the trail’s challenges and sweet spots. No skier enjoyed the apres ski campfire, nourishment and review of the day out more than he.

Yuriy took his love of the trail and of the event and his dedication to the cause of Vermont’s Alzheimer’s Association to the sidewalks, effectively recruiting skiers for the event and just the right sort of person to help organize it all. For those fourteen years Yuriy Myron Bihun contributed so much to the spirit and success of the Camel’s Hump Challenge.
